Mercedes
Benz G-Class/G Wagon is one of the popular brands sold by German automaker,
Mercedes-Benz.
However,
there are few tit-bits that you probably did not know about this box-styled,
off-roader (SUV).
These are…
- G-Wagon is the short form of the German word (Geländewagen) meaning (cross country vehicle)
- In 1972, the development of the brand started, which makes it one of the longest manufactured Mercedes-Benz in Daimler’s history, with a lifespan of 35 years. Only the Unimog surpasses it.
- The brand is not produced by Mercedes-Benz, but it is been sold by them. An Austrian auto company called Magna Steyr that was formerly known as Steyr-Daimler-Puch manufactures this brand.
- It was developed as a military means of transportation on the proposal of the former Supreme Leader of Iran, Shah of Iran, who was a Mercedes-Benz shareholder then. The Shah of Iran has since been replaced by a new Supreme Leader called Ayatollah Khomeini.
- The brand got a civilian model the same year the Shah of Iran was overthrown in 1979 and is sometimes referred to as the “Wolf”.
